This month, my favorite team (Los vaqueros de Bayamón)from the island was eliminated from the playoffs. It was a pretty intense battle between Los Vaqueros de Bayamón and Guaynabo Mets, it ended 3- 2. I never sadly had the time to attend one of the games from the playoffs. Once I was leaving a concert and went to take the train back home. There were people from Bayamon who also were on the train. I noticed that all of them had merchandise from Los Vaqueros and they were sad. I knew there was a game that same night so i asked them if we had one, one of them burst out crying and said that we sadly lost. These people love their team very much, even having to cry when they lose. The environment of these games are very intense, people scream, cry, insult the other teams players. On one of these games there was a fight that broke down between a group of people in a home game from Los Vaqueros, even though Los Vaqueros issued a report to explain in which the environment should be a family friendly event and that they do not tolerate that type of behavior. This is still a good example of how much the fans are willing to go for their team. There isn’t much reported on this situation as in, what happened to cause such an altercation but we can guess that they had a different opinion from each other and decided to throw punches. The league in Puerto Rico is also famous for how intense it is, the NBA is often called soft because of the rules that favored the offensive side than the defensive side, even though this year’s season there was a rule change in which eliminated “foul fishing”. It’s a type in which players do a jumpshot and purposely land on the defender so they can have a foul and have a chance to get 2 free points on the free point line. The Puerto Rican league has a lot of important players like John Stockton’s son and the Puerto Rican league has had other important figures like Phil Jackson, The coach of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant hence other players. He described the league as intense as well, even saying that they inspired his ways of coaching the players in the NBA to play hard and hustle.
